Stuck & Getting UnStuck

article comfort zone getting unstuck risk
I remember feeling stuck.

There was a time, not so long ago, when my wife and I were always waiting for the other shoe to drop--the next bad thing to happen in our life.

So many bad things had been happening for so long (e.g. collapsed business, panic attacks, eviction notices, repo'd vehicle, utilities disconnected, bad health, overwhelming depression, aggressive lawsuits, loss of friends, death of close family, etc.), we felt stuck in a life we didn't know how to escape.

Maybe you've been there. Maybe you're there now.

Stuck is when disaster feels like it's inevitable; we just don't know exactly when it's going to happen, it's an endless loop of expecting the worst and getting what we were expecting.

ONE THING

My wife would tell me, "If we could just figure out ONE THING that works, we could work it for all it's worth and get out of this mess. We just need ONE THING that works."

When you're stuck, it's almost impossible to think about anything other than survival. All you want to do is make it another day.

You're always treading water and dodging sharks.

To get unstuck, you have to make adjustments in your thoughts, your behavior, and your actions. Again, hard to find that ONE THING when you're barely breathing because almost all of your decisions are based in fear when you're stuck.

And yet, having faith won't get you out of your pit; faith alone isn't enough. You can die in faith, sitting in church, singing your favorite song.

Hope is good to have, too, but hope alone won't pull you out.

Love is the greatest force in the universe, and yet, your ONE THING will continue to elude you if all you do is focus on love.

THE ANSWER

Risk is the answer.

Burn the ships, back yourself into a corner, give yourself no possible way of retreat if you're going to get unstuck.

Risky? Yeah, risk is very risky.

You're never going to get out of being stuck by doing all the things you've been doing. You have to make big moves, take giant leaps, and risk more than you feel like you can lose.

If risk is the answer, safety is the problem.

You're not happy being stuck, but at least you know what to expect every day of your life for the rest of your life. The safety of knowing you're stuck can be strangely comforting, in a sad, pathetic kind of way.

YOU PROMISED

You're the type of person who promised yourself, "I'm not going to live a mediocre life. I'm not going to do the same thing over and over again until I die. I'm not like everybody else. I'm tired of just surviving. I'm going to design the life I want to live."

My wife was right (she usually is), we just needed ONE THING.

BURNING THE SHIPS

I got unstuck when I quit playing small.

My life started to get fixed the day I quit focusing entirely on myself. I took big chances and put myself in super risky positions. I burned the ships!

I started playing the long game where my money, time, attention, and expertise were reinvested over and over again, with compounding interest, before taking my profits off the table.

I bet everything on helping other people get unstuck.

I promised myself I would not live a mediocre life.

I promised my wife I would give her the kind of life she envisioned having when she married me. I promised myself my kids would remember me as being legendary.

I promised myself, "I will not! I refuse to die in survival mode."

If that's the same promise you made to yourself, and you need help getting unstuck, get on my schedule because I've risked my entire life on helping people, just like you, get unstuck.

Getting the right kind of people unstuck is what I do best and my clients tell me I'm better at it than anybody they've ever met.

P.S. It wasn't that long ago I turned 50 years old. I'll turn around and be 60 with 70 not so far behind. Life is like a vapor. Take this moment and make something of your life before another decade is gone.
